Re: Bolting Coriander !!!

I know coriander can sometimes be a bit tricky and suddenly decide to bolt; I was very disappointed in some seeds we sowed. Kept them in the shade, etc. etc. In a very short space of time they had all grown quite leggy with magnificent flower heads. Checked the seed packet yesterday and discovered the seed is specially for growing your own coriander seed for cooking. DOH !

Mine have gone skywards too Biggs !!! Lovely display of flowers though I only had chance to use the leaves once.just have to keep buying from METRO and sticking them in the freezer, at least I know they won't go to pot before I can use it up. I will keep the plants going and try to get some more seeds for curries etc. I did hear not to plant near to Fennel (I think) as they can sometime cross pollinate and not do too well, we do have some fennel in the garden but about 10 yards away, don't think that would have done it do you?

Hi Yummy, I want to grow fennel next year, was inspired by seeing it on a TV programme last week.
I think the weather is probably responsible for the erratic growing behaviour. Next year I will try growing the normal coriander in one of the shadiest spots we have in the garden. Just got to dig up some more weeds first :0(

Mine always bolts, but I just keep using it anyway :-)
I've actually grown some basil this year without it bolting, although it is only the size of dandelions :-)
