Taken DQ's advice and put this on here so it doesn't disappear too quickly.
All suggestions welcome for a recipe.
Not had one for absolutely ages............anyone fancy it now the Summer is nearly over?
How about thinking towards September then we can all have a good think about a recipe until then, and all September to try it out??
For the Newbies, we gather in suggestions as to what recipe we want to try out and then decide on a recipe. During the month i.e. September, those who want to take part , try out the recipe, and report back noting any changes or substitutions made in the recipe (for instance those who are abroad not being able to get the ingredients) and how they felt it went, Some may take pictures then these are submitted to DQ for inclusion in the cookalong web album. Hope this makes it clear but if you have any questions please just post them on here.
Yummy :0)
Hi again Yummy,
I suggest we do a main course this time-perhaps Hung Shao Pork or Beef in Barolo.

I need an excuse to buy another piece of beef from the place I got some the other week - it was so-o-o delicious.

The beef sounds delicious.
My vote is for the HC pork, I'm getting told off for using so much wine in the cooking!!
is there a way we can make the cook-a-long seasonal???
Oh, the pork sounds delicious, but so does the beef :0)
Seasonal, Samcat. The weather seems to be all over the place around the globe, just read about the hailstones Joy H encountered yesterday.
That's what I was looking for, Cat, but as Biggs says, what is the season at the moment? Today it's more like a November day here.
Has anyone any more ideas?

I vote for the pork as serves a smaller number of people which means i can be lazy and not have to worry about my maths!
I think both dishes sound delicious, but I am rather hankering after the Pork I have to say.
Could be something you could serve at a BBQ too....if the weather gets any warmer .
Hey come on ! we ARE going to have that Indian Summer your know !!!!
Yummy
Thanks for drawing my attention to these recipes, both look fab. I've decided to do the beef this sunday (weather sposed to be wet) but just gone to do my internet shopping and buy ingredients and can't find the appropriate cut of beef.
I don't have time to go to a butcher, does anyone have any ideas which cut (sold by waitrose online!) would be suitable?
The recipe sayes boned rolled brisket or braising steak. Of course they sell braising steak but it's cubed or sliced, nothing like the barolo picture.
Any ideas much appreciated.
thanks

I fancy trying Delia's (frugal) Beef in Cider. But I'll generally go with the flow unless it's too expensive or it's something I know I wouldn't like. Happy to be organised by someone as it's usually me who does all the organising!

Hi Fishwife - the piece of beef I bought from the place I mentioned above (yorkshire highlanders) was called crop. I'd never bought it before but chatted to the lady - it was at a food fair. She assured me it was good and it sure was! It looked just like the meat in Delia's recipe photo - beautifully lean and tender after the two hour spell in the oven with wine & veg etc. x x
I have done the beef in Barolo and it's delicious but Barolo is getting very expensive so I'd suggest if anyone is doing it to take Delia's advice and use a grape of the same variety but a cheaper wine. It is sensational though.
I`m up for the cookalong too, Yummy, and by Sept. we`ll all be ready for some nice heart warming dishes.
I quite fancy the look of the Moroccan chicken with chickpeas and rice, as it`s another one of Delia`s all in one dishes, like the poulet basque.
crumbs :-)
great idea- not very helpful but i'll go with the flow- all suggestions so far sound delicious!
I'd like to do the pork, as we very rarely buy it - I find it so boring and OH prefers lamb and beef - so I'd love to find something interesting to do with it.

Just been chatting to my Sainsbug butcher about pork belly and I've decided I'd prefer not to do the pork! x x
Oh those lovely Highland cattle - we saw them up close driving through Glen Lonan a few weeks ago, the babies were gorgeous, little square boxes of ginger fur, I could have hugged them! I wish I'd had a camera, Elpe, and yes I'd love to eat one!!!
