Hi there Tilly. Tell me just out of interest did you cut the stem right down to the base or above one of the nodes. I have recently treated myself to a couple of orchids and have had a look online for advice on care and found conflicting advice. Whichever you did obviously works!! Witty x

Have a mass of orchids, try to get them to flower simultaneously but never works ! Cut back to a node that is purple/red , only to the base if obviosly the whole stem is dying back. Give a good water and feed then treat them like your mother in law, a big fuss every other week and then ignore. Works for me.

I gave my Mum an orchid last Christmas. She tells me it's been in bloom continuously since then - now thats what I call a good value Christmas present.

We have 2 IKEA orchids as well - bought them early last year. They flowered for months - and then I was going to throw them away - as they just looked like sticks!!
But my OH cut them back (I'm not sure how) - and despite looking like sticks all winter - they now have about 30 flowers between them - they look fantastic - and ahve definitely been great value!
