Can you eat the orange egg like fruits of the passion flower?? I picked some yesterday, they were soft and inside were ruby red, juicy seeds. Are these the fruit that are edible that you put into smoothies etc. They weren't as pungent as I expect Passion Fruit to be.
Any Thoughts ?
Yummy
Yummy- i think they sound like the passionflower plants that grow ok in the UK- with the blue/cream flowers? they are more of an ornamental- not poisonous (but you mustn't eat them if they're not ripe)- edible, but not very tasty! the passionfruits you buy with a lovely purple skin are from a more tender variety that you dont see very often as they need warmer temperatures.
funnily enough a neighbour brought me a plant yesterday and gave me the fruit from it which were the dark purple ones- really sweet and tasty. hope i can keep it alive!
someone else might have some thoughts too- just to double check?
Thanks Th, good advice as always. Yes it did look like one of the common ones. I googled it and saw that some can be poisonous if eaten whilst under-ripe. Definitely not the temperatures here I don't think to support one of the purple variety, although amazingly on Saturday we had a temp of 27degrees !!
Yummy
I don't know the variety but we had delicious fruits from a passionflower in a previous house.
