Did anyone know that M&S are now reducing their food that is on its last sell by date. I certainly didnt. passed through the food hall at Milton Keynes mid-afternoon yesterday on the way to first floor and noticed several assistants with yellow stickers! Got some good bargains including a large Oakham chicken which we are having for lunch today. Must be a sign of the times as I have never know them to do this before, I asked one of the assistants about it and she said they had been doing it for a few months now to cut down on the waste that would have previously just been dumped. Couldnt believe it, Tescos yellow stickers yes but M&S never! but wont complain.

About time too! Interested to know how much the reduction was though. I hate it when supermarkets reduce things by a few pence. What's the point?
when I worked at M&S one summer, at the end of the day the staff could buy it really cheaply. It was like a bun fight though.

TDS - oakham chicken reducted from £7.50 to £5. Cod and chips £2.99 to £1.50 Aberdeen Angus beef burgers 4 for £2. Tray of breadcrumb coated chicken for £2. As you will have noticed from my thread in "can anyone help" I have had a bargain week-end!

I went in M and S yesterday with my Mum and there were many reductions in general all over the place - not food that was out of date that evening but loads of half price ready meals and curries, etc.

Also things like Extra Virgin Olive Oil were only £1.70 for a litre bottle so I stocked up and pure organic vanilla extract was just £2 so stocked up on that too - both had very long shelf life and will be used up so it wasn't a false economy.

My Mum thought that it was because of the credit crunch and shoppers having deserted M and S for the likes of Lidl and Aldi and they were trying to entice them back!

I detest the idea of food being wasted - not a single piece of food is wasted in my kitchen! I am sure a charatable concern would appreciate leftover food that is out of date - if there is any to donate after late night customers and staff have been through it!

Thanks for letting us know, Woodie, this is the sort of post which is very helpful to all. I`m up for bargains these days, especially for foodie ones! Just bought 5 large beautiful organic apples at a carboot for 5p each. Nice juice coming on,..............at that price I can afford the treat.

Thanks Woodepiegeon for the info!
Even before, M&S had always reduced prices on breads & cakes (I got a loaf of bread 800g for 50p) but this is the first time that they have expanded it..

Must admit I have not noticed reduced price stickers in M&S apart from their usual offers. I was in our local Simply food store on Friday looking for salad things, and was annoyed to see the a lot of them had really short sell by dates, and since i wanted them for Sunday and Monday they were useless. Didn't see reductions although they could have done with them. Went over the road to Waitrose and got my things there.

They didn't in Sutton Coldfield last Thursday. Chicken still at full price.

Never mind treated myself to a nice jacket while I was there.
