...for jury duty. Have to report to Carlisle Crown Court at 9:30 on Monday 3rd November. My first response was "butter"! However, on reflection it's my civic duty and hopefully, I'll get to mooch around the city if I'm not called immediately. The records office isn't too far away from the courts so I could indulge in my genealogica hobby. Maybe doing my civic duty won't be so bad (fingers crossed.)
Hi Liz,
I got called up once when i used to live in London, I thought it was going to be really exciting, like a mass murder up on trial, would be away from work for weeks. Lasted five days, first day was really boring sitting about waiting, next day got called into court, to be honest i was so bored lost track of what was going on, at the end of the day i got called aside and was asked if i could possible wear more respectable clothes, hadn't realised you could see through a jumper i was wearing. By the fourth day i nearly fell asleep.. all very boring. the case we were on didn't even hit the newspaper. The young guy was let off.
Hope you have a good case. Don't forget to put in all those expensive.
Good luck Liz, hope you get on alright.
I only know one person who's ever done Jury Service - was a friend in London.
She was called for a big porn case - had to view lots of "interesting" material - LOL!!!
Good Luck - and I hope you find it a worthwhile experience.
I've only done jury service once Liz and you're right - it is a duty and one to be proud of. But. Bring a good book, it can be incredibly boring. I was only on two piddly cases the entire week. Found myself easily swayed by both the defence and the prosecution! And pooped by the time I got home. Good luck!

I was called once and was really looking forward to it --but my employers would not let me go !!!! The Drs sent a letter to the courts and I was "let off "and I was VERY upset !!!!. Susan x
I did Jury Service a couple of years ago, and it WAS boring. We were a hung jury in the event, so I didn't even have the satisfaction of seeing some malefactors get their just desserts!
Thanks for the tip about a good book. OH was called several years ago and he got a juicy murder case on his second day and it lasted a few days and no, he wouldn't tell me about it until it was all over and I could read about it in the papers.
