Refreshing summer drinks
Sometimes, when it's hot, a long non-alcoholic drink slips down more easily than wine or beer. And if you have drivers among your guests, they'll welcome something a bit more interesting than mineral water. These three drinks are just perfect for hot-weather drinking.
Debbie Owen's Iced Tea
I first tasted this version at my friends the Owens' Fourth of July party several years ago and have been addicted to it ever since. It's like a non-alcoholic Pimm's, so it's perfect for serving to drivers.
Pineapple Cooler
This is a most extraordinary drink. It sounds so unlikely, but it really does taste good – not like pineapple but more like cider. It's very refreshing on a hot summer's day, and it's great fun to make in that it uses only the skin of the pineapple which is normally thrown away – so there's nothing to lose!
Home-made Lemonade
There really isn't anything quite like it. There are a million and one commercial versions, but nothing can compare with the flavour of fresh lemons made into lemonade.
