Dublin Restaurants  (6 Replies)
Monday 17 November 08:42

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a couple of restaurants in Dublin please ? My partner & I will both be proud new possessors of shiny new wedding rings & are ending our honeymoon with a few nights in Dublin. We aren't looking for very formal places, but nice relaxed restaurants that serve great food!

Has anybody else tried this recipe from Delia? I thought it was delicious, easy to make and a bit hit with the OH. I did substitute the gigantes beans with cheaper butter beans and a tin of chopped tomatoes though

Further to Helenb's recommendation for Tarantella baked beans from Costco, I bought some Tarantella organic tinned tomatoes. Absolutely lovely. Full of flavour and quite the best I have tasted.

Balti house in Birmingham  (1 Reply)
Thursday 13 November 06:41

Heartily recommended is Akrams, a balti house along the Pershore Road in Birmingham. Quite a large room, very tastefully decorated and furnished. Huge portions of delicious food. We really enjoyed our meal there last night, although I knew we shouldn't have had a starter as well - we were absolutely stuffed out when we left the place. Anyway, if you're in the area (it's in the Stirchley area), it's well worth a try. You can take your own alcoholic bevvies, and if you forget to bring any, you can nip across the road to the off-licence. Michele x

Water in meat  (5 Replies)

To remove excess water from pork chops before grilling. Salt, wrap in kitchen towel and then in plastic sandwich bag. Leave in fridge between 2 plates. Replace paper if they get too wet.
Scrape chops before grilling. They cook in half the time and are very tender (don't over cook!!). Use other dry marinades ingredients as well as salt if desired.

Marinated rump steak - delish  (8 Replies)
Saturday 01 November 11:51

Made this last evening, only marinated the steak for 5 hours as that was all the time I had.
As Delia says, "Oh so easy, oh so delicious". It was gorgeous. Had to have it with cauliflower cheese as the cauli had to be used; still good.

Thursday 30 October 21:44

Made this earlier in the week. It's absolutely scrumptious. Didn't tell OH it was goat cheese until he'd eaten it and commented on the creaminess and lovely flavour. Had I told him before, he'd have turned his nose up! Can well recommend this one.

Biscuits  (3 Replies)
Wednesday 29 October 12:15

Having run out of biscuits I decided to make some just in case I had visitors for coffee. Made Antony Worrall Thompson's Quick Biscuits and they were great and so easy. Unfortunately no one called in and I managed to eat the lot! Am resisting the urge to make them again - at least for a while.

baked beans
Saturday 25 October 18:18

Just to recommend these from Costco.
The tin is packed tight with the beans -much less sauce than in others so can be added to dishes as 'beans' (without the sauce taking over).
Tarantella organic baked beans.
