Sorry for another thread on Chicken Basque. I made this last night & it was delicious! In fact, OH told me that he would prefer this to paella. Instead of cooking the chicken breasts whole, I cut it up into smaller peices & I follwed Nenna's suggestion and used cider instead of wine.
On a related note, I would like to ask, what would be a good substitute for Heinz Tomato Frito? I was scouring Tesco a few days ago & they did not have it on stock.
Many thanks in advance!
Glad you found my tip useful oscar, I also find it difficult to get Frito from some places and don't always want to make the trip to Tesco. I did make it with a passata like bottled mixture I bought from Lidl, and it turned out fine, unfortunately it had chilli flavouring which my 2 grand -daughters weren't partial to, a bit too hot for them! However I think anything of the same consistency is worth trying, after all it will still be edible, and you can dedide which you like best.
Oscar - if you go to Your Recipes on the Community home page and type Frito in the white box you will see that Krish has a recipe for it in his profile.
Did you ask for it in Tesco? The reason I ask is that I was looking for it recently and it was nowhere to be seen near the sauces etc., where you would usually find it. I went to Customer Services, they looked it up on their computer, and gave me the aisle number and which side it was on (which I thought was pretty impressive!), and there it was with the gravy granules. It might be worth asking next time as I think it sometimes ends up where you aren't expecting it.
It's fabulous recipe isn't it??
I'm still using Passata instead of Frito. No sign of it yet in our Tesco Nor, I'll keep checking.
GQ - have you asked Customer Services for it?
The Tesco I go to usually have it so I guess it just so happened that they didn't have it while I was there.
Thanks for all your suggestions! The passata would make a good substitute as I see it is widely available.
I will definitely make this dish again. BTW, I used risotto to make this dish.
I'm lucky my Tesco always seems to have Frito. Stored next to tinned toms and tomato puree. xx
I will ask next week Nor and report back mon capitaine! :-)
Hi Noreen,
I found the reicpe. Thanks a lot!
Tried 3 different large Sainsburys and Waitrose, no joy for the Frito
