Hi there,
Well I’m now thinking about starting my Xmas cakes my only problem is i have moved since last year and the oven we now have is a fan oven and I’m still not sure on the setting for it, can anyone help me as to what temperature to put it on, my OH always says just knock 20* off a normal electric one, but I don’t want to mess up my cakes. Any idea?
I don't make cakes but for everything else, I do exactly as your husband suggests, and simply take 20 degrees off the temp.

I agree with James, although with my oven I can switch the fan off, I always find that xmas cakes are never predictable any way so would keep a close eye on its progress.

yeah think thats mybest bet keeping an eye on it, thanks x
Hi, at lower temps I reduce the heat less, so for 130 C I reduce to 115 or even 120, depends on the oven.
you can search the message board (fan oven and / or christmas cake) and I think you will find a fair bit of helpful information.

I have a fan oven and bake regular with it. What I do is reduce the temp of any recipe by 10 degrees and reduce the time by 10 minutes of any recipe it works 99.9% of the time!
Thanks Lynne thats a great help.
