Do you wear a pinny in the kitchen?

and

Do you use oven gloves/mitts or a folded up tea towel.

I wear a Pinny, the full body type with a bib, most of mine have pockets too, all the time - as i am so messy, and now very used to wiping my hands down myself, when got a bit of chocolate sauce on my fingers, or tomato pulp, etc etc.

I also use oven gloves, a pocket each end type, can;t use mitts (one handed oven gloves) as they are normally too big for my itty bitty hands, would never dream of using a tea towel as an oven cloth.

No don't wear a pinny, but should really especially when playing with flour. I use a folded up teatowel - could never get on with oven gloves, find them cumbersome.

Sometimes and sometimes.
Today I should have used a pinny because I made bread and I'm wearing black. But I didn't bother. Mistake!!
I can't seem to see the oven glove unless I hung it up in the proper place - which I often don't do. Tea cloth isn't as well insulated so burnt fingers. I've got oven gloves like yours , but one lot just aren't flexible enough and it's hard to get a good grip with them. I'm too mean to throw them away though

I always wear a pinny (and it always makes me laugh - and wince - when you see these TV cooks (including Delia) wearing their posh clothes without a pinny). I do use oven gloves (the bigger and thicker the better), but sometimes a folded up teatowel is easier to grab in a hurry!. I like the longer style oven gloves, have burnt my wrists far too many times for comfort over the years!

I sometimes wear a pinny (when I remember) and I use fabulous things called Ovegloves my son sent me from Canada they're brilliant - look like "proper" gloves but nice and thick and have a non-slip coating too. No more burnt hands. I'm also guilty though of just using a tea towel (sometimes even dishcloth) and usually suffer the consequences.

No , no pinny,I only wear tatty things round the house anyway!
Definitely Oven Gloves..the heavy duty ones from Lakeland. I have far too much respect for my fingers then risk burning them on tea towels!

You are a sad woman Sam !!!!

I ought to wear a pinny, but I don't; only if entertaining and I'm 'dressed'. I have got half a dozen, somewhere :0)
Nearly always use the same style as you for the oven gloves. Took a few years of re-training away from the tea towel, but at least I don't burn myself so much.

I use oven gloves - heavy duty from Lakeland. Apart from anything else, they're the only type I am able to use to grab the handle on my bread-maker when the loaf is ready.

I wear a pinny if I'm doing a big cook up, I tend not to for everyday cooking, but Know I should as I'm often covered in dinner!! ........ maybe I'd be better off wearing a bib :o)

Oven gloves and tea towels - whatever is close to hand.

same as saffy - pinny when having a real session, but should be all the time. Oven mitts for me - nice long ones. Always have a teatowel hanging from pinny pocket to wipe messy hands. Always makes OH laugh so i think it must be a bit sad.. hey ho!

I wear an apron if I'm cooking a meal that I know will take more than an hour of my time.

As for oven gloves, I use them over a tea towel anyday. I'm terrified of getting burnt, which is pretty silly considering how often I cook.

I seem to recall a thread where someone tried to explain the difference between a pinny and an apron! I think the pinny is the full length type, so I try wear one if I'm doing something messy, like bolognese sauce since I've lost track of the T-shirts I've stained forever with splashes.
If I'm baking, I like to tuck a tea towel into the waist part of the pinny as I'm forever needing to wipe my hands. But the rest of the time I don't bother. My mother & grandmother always wore pinnies but I suppose that was because it was so much more complicated to wash clothes before the days of automatics & T dryers.
I much prefer oven gloves to mitts - though I have both, I never use the mitts. I have three sets of oven gloves (LOL!) - fancy ones for when guests are around, slightly slimmer butcher stripey ones for my breadmaker pan, and my favourite ones which are boringly uninteresting, an indescribable colourless shade but work a treat!

i actually just treated myself to some new oven mitts two weeks ago - am very chuffed with them! Had the old ones for about 10 years and i think they were from Tesco so i got my money's worth! They looked disgusting, even though i washed them all the time!

I wear a Pinny some times and also use a tea cloth to get things out of the oven. Don't have any gloves/mitts. I take off my PInny after I've cooked the meal but really should wear it until I've eaten my meal as I'm a messy pup and always seem to splash something down my front! Think I need to get one of those bibs that you can get for babies. Think they are stiff plastic and have a holding bit at the bottom!! Dottie Mayx

Actually wearing an clean apron/pinny is as much about protecting the food as your clothes (although I don't take mine off until I've eaten if I've cooked spag bol ). Apron's a must if you are cooking for any catering work, so it becomes automatic. I hve oven gloves -heavy duty type. Di

No No, I didn't mean people were sad because they wear an apron Sam...far from it..my lovely Mum would never be without an apron..one of 6those wrap around types that Hilda Ogden used to wear!
But here it is..Friday night and you are discussing Aprons and Oven Gloves! It was just a flippant remark..I hope I haven't hurt your feelings now. That wouldn't do at all.
Now..put your pinny on..cook up a storm and gird your oven gloves..have a lovely weekend. XXXXX

Michele, you're quite right. Whenever I see one of Delia's programmes I say to her - "Not in that lovely shirt - you'll ruin it, please put a pinny on." - but she never listens.

No never a pinny unless I'm dressed and waiting for guests to arrive. But usually only dash upstairs minutes before they arrive (one of these days I'll get caught out)!!! Christmas morning is really the only time I wear one for any length of time... a pretty Liberty print one for Christmas and a green butchers striped one the rest of the time (matches the Aga). The kids reckon I have asbestos fingers... unless something has been pushed to the back of the Aga I will just grab a folded tea towel. Mind you, I reckon I have very little finger prints left on my finger tips.

Honey :-x
