Just wondered if any of you willingly share your recipes - which you have perhaps devised yourself, or are old family tricks/ favourites?

When I have friends over for a meal and people say "you must give me the recipe for this" I sometimes am horrified and think I want it to be my own secret...!

I always think its a honour Flapjack. Course, I tell them, but they won't be able to do it at home as well as I can! ha ha ha!!

I'll happily share Flapjack. One of my sisters-in-law shared with me her meat and potato pie recipe, I made it and it was good but I didn't think it tasted as good as hers (and I told her so). I think sometimes other people cooking for you makes things taste better. I know that my SIL didn't leave out an ingredient so mine wouldn't taste as good as hers!

I'm happy to share. Don't have any secret family recipes and the fantastic recipes I have now have come from Delia (and a few other books) and the lovely people on here.
Bless you all :0)

I wouldn't dream of refusing to share a recipe - I'm always very happy to tell people how things are made.
I had one friend who boasted about her roast potatoes and then refused to tell me the 'secret'; I thought she was rather odd.

Yes, I've been completely open source long before it was invented.

if asked I supply...but most of the people who sample my food never want my recipes, they tend to prefer for me to make them again

Hey Nixxx, maybe your friend's "secret" was Aunt Bessie or someone similar!

I always think that, if Delia didn't share her recipes with us, we'd be in a right pickle!!!!!!!
I always share a good recipe. You never know, someone you give it to will probably 'tweak' it and it could come back to you even better.

LOL Liz, I never thought of that! I have to say that I never tasted these fabled roast spuds; she just told me about them so maybe you're right...

Might sound presumptuous, but I have certain friends who I know will ask for the recipe (they give them theirs) and so I have usually printed it off for them before they arrive and leave it on the worksurface. They just pick it up and say... is this for me? Now that is a compliment!! The strange thing is, though I have told people about Delia's recipes and all you lovely people who put your recipes on here... they are happy for me to give them the recipes. I wish they would come and see for themselves.

I agree Trekkie... where would we be if Delia didn't share her recipes?! I give credit to whomever has donated the recipe. In fact I am always giving people a jar of your rhubarb and tangerine preserve and telling them that it's Trekkie's !!

That should have said "they give me theirs".

Oh but you do share your recipes Flapjack!!! :o) I like the look of that Cheats Cheesecake. Sounds really good! I must try that some time. Would you say that the quantity of mascarpone is about 2 x 250g tubs?

No problem sharing a recipe and no problem in asking for one either.

I am always delighted (and amazed) when asked and always say yes. It is how we all learn.
