I don't shop there and consider it a rubbish shop. I've been there to take an elderly neighbour shopping. Anyway, I had to go into Crediton and was in need of haricot beans. Somerfield sold no dried pulses only tinned ones, which I didn't buy. Are these stores always so useless?

Hi
Just had to comment! I had to go in one recently (only place near my friend who i was going to baby sit for that stocked loo roll) and it was awful. Dark, dirty and dingy. And the staff - so rude! And as for the customers .... mmm or as my dad would say am i being an "inverted snob"?!

Me too, Apple Crumble, about the customers. It wasn't dirty, just naff. The staff aren't rude, though they all do estuary speak. S'field is the only supermarket in Crediton, which is why I usually go to Okehampton (Waitrose).

Mmmm, can't say I would actually care what dialect people use but, I can say, that the Somerfield local to my office is fab after having a major refurb. I'm pretty sure that James also has a great S'field near to him (or perhaps that's Budgeons?)

Gerry,

Maybe the exception that proves the rule, but we have one near us and it is very good. Very clean and you can get all the normal dried pulses in small bags.

Forgot to add they do a 1kg bag of basmati basic rice for 99p. It is very good.

Meatloaf, wondering what had happened to you as I hadn't seen you posting lately. Was worried that you were being ordered to do too much DIY. How's the frugal food blog plan?

We had a newly built Somerfield about 5 miles away - I found it rather good- especially the wine selection. It was bought out by Tesco about 8 years ago. I think the last Somerfields have been bought by the Co-op

Gerry,

You've hit the nail on the head. I am unfortunately attempting to do lots of DIY at the moment. We want to sell up and move to the midlands next year (if we can sell in the present climate) so I have no excuses. I will try and get a blog going when I have the time. I am trying numerous frugal recipes though. Have used alot of offal and have had some encouraging results.

I think I'm busier now than when I worked.

Somerfield is revolting, just like Tesco.

Somerfield thankfully, no longer exsists, its co-op now, which is just as bad, but luckly, we dont have them in London!!!!!!!!

Also I have found a recipe for breast of lamb, which is a very inexpensive cut of meat, where you cut up the breast and use as for barbecued ribs. I will try and post the recipe on my profile if I find the time.

We told you that you'd wonder how you found time to work Meatloaf, as you've discovered, we were right! Don't forget to have some "me" time though.

I hate it in there .... rarely go in unless absolutely desperate!

Not about Somerfield but about haricot beans. I bought tinned ones from Morrisons last week which were hard and horrible but as they were in my stew I could hardly take them back. Really cross as they spoiled our meal.

TDS, could you claim a refund for the ingredients of the entire meal?

Somerfield always used to have a policy of refunding and replacing - give it a try

I did think about it Gerry but we ate it as that was our dinner and going to complain after eating it somehow would be a bit odd.

The Sommerfild where I live is quite expensive- it makes Waitrose look like a discount supermarket.
